Probate and estate administration solicitors in Windsor, Berkshire
Professional advice and guidance from our probate and estate administration experts at Charles Coleman LLP, based in Windsor and representing clients across the home counties.
Dealing with the estate of a loved one after their death can be hard. Obtaining probate and winding up someone’s affairs is frequently complex and time-consuming as well as coming at what is often a very difficult time for a family.
At Charles Coleman Solicitors in Windsor, our probate and estate administration solicitors can help you deal with all matters following a death, whether or not the deceased left a Will. It is often advisable to seek expert help with finalising an estate, particularly as the personal representatives can be held personally liable for any financial losses arising from a mistake, even if this is a genuine oversight.
You will find us to be sympathetic and helpful and we will do all we can to make the process as easy as possible for you. If you have any questions about what is involved, please do not hesitate to call us on 01753 861 115 or email us at enquiries@charles-coleman.com or fill in our contact form and we will be happy to help.
For information regarding our fees, see our Costs for Probate and Estate Administration page. Alternatively, please feel free to give us a ring on 01753 861 115 and we will be happy to discuss the likely costs with you.
Obtaining a Grant of Probate or a Grant of Letters of Administration
We will let you know whether a Grant of Probate is necessary or, if the deceased did not leave a Will, a Grant of Letters of Administration. In some cases where an estate is small, a Grant is not required.
We can advise the relevant authorities of the death on your behalf and calculate whether Inheritance Tax will be payable by valuing the deceased’s assets and, if so, how much will be due. Once this has been paid, we can apply to the Probate Registry for a Grant.
Estate administration
Once the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration is received, we can deal with the estate administration. This will involve collecting in the assets and clearing all of the debts and other liabilities of the estate. We will prepare detailed estate accounts and liaise with residuary beneficiaries to ensure these are approved.
Once all matters are finalised, we will arrange for the estate to be distributed to the beneficiaries, either in accordance with the deceased’s Will or, where they did not leave a Will, in accordance with the Rules of Intestacy.
